The department ofAude is created during the French Revolution, March 4, 1790. It resumed part of the former province of Languedoc and takes its name from the river which runs through it. It is bordering on the departments of Pyrénées-Orientales, from theAriège, from the Haute-Garonne, of Tarn andHérault.

Migration in Aude
The department ofAude est reconnu pour sa production viticole. Dès 1870, there crise du phylloxéra impliquera l’embauche de main d’œuvre étrangère, nécessaire pour le renouvellement du vignoble. Entre 1876 et 1881, there population étrangère sera multipliée par 3 dans le department pour atteindre près de 9200 personnes. Ces étrangers sont majoritairement des Espagnols.
