The Rhône department is located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in eastern France. He is bordering onAin, of theIsère, from the Loire and Saône-et-Loire. 

Originally, it is thehe department of Rhône-et-Loire which was created ofring the French Revolution in 1790. But it was quickly replaced by the Department of the Rhône, in 1793, following the revolt between Rolandins (Girondins) And Signs Lyonnais. It corresponds to the old provinces of Lyonnais and Beaujolais.

The Rhône department is rich in history and heritage. The city of Lyon (Lugofnum) was the capital of Gaul ofring the Roman era. And in the Middle Ages, the Rhône played an important role in trade and exchanges between north and southern Europe.

🧳 Les migrations dans le department of Rhône


Le department of Rhône et sa région ont connu plusieurs vagues de migrations au cours de l'Histoire :: 


  • During prehistory and antiquity :: les premières populations connues dans la région sont des tribus Celtes, telles que les Ségusiaves and Allobroges. Au moment de la conquête romaine, des populations venues de tout l'empire s'installent dans la région, notamment à Lugofnum (Lyon), une ville importante de la Gaule romaine. 


  • In the Middle Ages :: The region experienced barbaric invasions, Burgundians, which settled in the 5th century. 


  • In the 16th century :: The region is experiencing important Italian immigration, in the field of silk. Protestant populations from other regions of France settle in the region, in Lyon in particular, which becomes an important center of printing and publishing. 


  • In the 19th century :: le department of Rhône connaît une forte inofstrialisation, c’est d’ailleurs l’essor de la construction d’entreprises de toutes taille - ce qui attirera une main d’œuvre peu qualifiée d’abord rurale, puis étrangère. On compte parmi cette main d’oeuvre des hommes, mais aussi des femmes, venus principalement d’Italie, de Suisse, d’Allemagne, d’Espagne et de Pologne. Les Suisses and Allemand travailleront principalement dans la banque ou la soie, tandis que les autres se retrouveront dans l’inofstrie, le bâtiment ou les chantiers de travaux publics (ferroviaire). 


  • In the 20th century :: en pleine période de conflit mondial, le nord de la région étant occupée, les inofstries se concentrent vers Lyon, notamment avec les usines Berliet, et emploient de la main d’œuvre des colonies africaines et asiatiques. Durant l’entre-deux-guerre et dès la fin de la seconde Guerre Mondiale, l’immigration dans la région explose, le Rhône est le department qui compte le plus d’étrangers avec l’arrivée de nombreux Algériens, Tunisiens et Portugais.
