Maine-And-Loire is a French department located in the Pays de la Loire region. His prefecture is the city of Angers. Il est limitrophe des departments de la Mayenne, from the Loire-Atlantique, from the Sarthe, from the Sold, from theIndre-And-Loire, of the Deux-Sèvres, from the Vienna andIlle-And-Vilaine.


The department was created during the French Revolution, in 1790. It was formed from a large part of the old province of Anjou, as well as small parts of the provinces of Poitou and Brittany. 


The department of Maine-And-Loire is known for its castles (such as the Château d'Angers, the Château de Saumur or the Château de Brissac) and its vineyards which produce renowned wines (Saumur, Savennières, Coteaux-du-Layon ...).

🧳 Migration in Maine-And-Loire


The department of Maine-And-Loire is not known to be an immigration land. From the 18th century, more than 200 Angevins will go in search of a bAndter life, at Canada.

It was only from the second half of the 19th century that the department will see some immigrants arriving. They are first BrAndon, recruited in Ille-And-Vilaine, in Côtes-du-Nord or in the Finistère to work in the slates of Trusted.
