Son retour d'expérience : "Il y a peu d'écrits sur le fait que les français (administrateurs civils et militaires) ont changé les noms de famille lors du 1er recensement, attribuant parfois des noms "loufoques", grotesques (surtout ceux donnés par les administrateurs), éclatant souvent les souches familiales (quand trop importantes) en 3 ou 4 parties. Par exemple, pour une personne qui portait un nom amazigh = (Aït) Maamar, celle-ci a été éclatée en 4 branches, avec 4 nouveaux noms de famille "français" différents - Bedrane, Bechane, Behtane, Beggar; tous les nouveaux noms de famille de ce village commencèrent alors par des A ou des B , 19 familles devenant 50 familles..."

Explanations: Les registres paroissiaux sont conservés dans les paroisses ou les diocèses (ce sont des actes privés, faire une demande d’acte est payant). L’État civil est mis en place en 1870, les registres dépendant du Ministry of Justice espagnol. La consultation d’actes est difficile en ligne, il faut bien souvent faire des demandes gratuites pour récupérer un acte. Il n’existe pas de tables décennales mais des tables annuelles, il n’existe pas non plus d’acte de mariage dans l’État civil (seulement des actes religieux). Les actes de baptême peuvent contenir beaucoup d’informations sur les parents et grands-parents du baptisé.
