The department of Paris was created in 1790 and is made up of the city of Paris and the surrounding municipalities. In 1795, the department of Paris became the department of Seine. Before being officially suppressd in 1968 and (re) becoming the department of Paris, which contains only a commune, Paris. The surrounding municipalities join the departments of Hauts-de-Seine, from the Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne.
Before doing genealogical research in the department of Paris, it is useful to know that certain archives were destroyed during history, especially during the commune of Paris in 1871.
In addition, the city of Paris having always been densely populated, genealogical research can be more complex.
Also, Paris has experienced many street name changes over the centuries and in particular during the French Revolution and under the Second Empire. Consulting old plans and specialized works can be useful to you.

🧳 THE migrations à Paris
In the Middle Ages and modern times : Paris has always attracted migrants from all over France. Many craftsmen, merchants and workers have settled in Paris to find work. There is also a small community of foreign immigrants, Italians and Flemings.
After the Second World War : Paris connaît une nouvelle vague d'immigration en provenance d'Afrique du Nord (Algérie, Maroc et Tunisie) and Portugal.
