🧳 THE migrations dans le Gard
The Gard department and the Occitanie region have experienced several waves of migration that shaped their cultural landscape:
- From the 16th to the 18th centuries: the region experienced strong population growth, linked to the immigration of populations of neighboring regions such as Provence and Languedoc. At the same time, French Protestants fled to the Gard to escape religious persecution.
- In the 20th century: Spanish refugees settled in the department during the Spanish civil war.
